Here are a few "Before & After" pictures of a small project we completed this summer. We were called out to look at this project after the existing cornice detail had fallen off the storefront. Upon initial inspection we could see that there was severe water damage that had deteriorated the stucco / drywall, to the point that it was literally crumbling off. We were told that this was the second time this cornice had rotted and come down. The existing cornice was simply made up of over 20 some pieces of 1x material piled up on top of each other, it had never had any flashing applied, and had only been attached to the stucco / drywall with 16 gauge finish nails & a few rusty screws. You could see where someone had gotten up there and rolled out a little roll of this thin flashing material and simply caulked it to the face of the drywall. It was no wonder that it rotted in a couple years and fell off. As a footnote, the previous contractor that installed this both times was a "Class A" general contractor.
