Here we feature a few before and after pictures of a wine cellar makeover. The room is approximately 10' x 20' with 8' ceiling height.
This room had had some shelving installed years before, that were constructed using plain particleboard shelving. This was originally 3/4" thick, but over the years it had swollen up, warped and decayed due to the moisture in the room.
The reason for the renovation was that the wine cellar had been constructed improperly. The walls and ceiling lacked the proper amount and type of insulation, the wrong type of drywall, and did not have a vapor barrier at all. These three deficiencies caused the AC unit in the room to literally work itself to death, and create copious amounts of condensation, causing it to rust and breakdown. Also this room did not have an exterior insulated doorway.
This project entailed the complete demo of the existing shelving, walls, and ceilings. Then we installed a 6 mil vapor barrier on the ceiling and newly framed walls, the proper insulation, drywall, door and paint. Then we topped it all out with over 42' of solid clear premium redwood racking. The owner wanted to keep the racking design basically the same as before.
