Custom Finish Carpentry in Northern Virginia

Here we feature several pictures showing off our finish carpentry we completed for a custom homebuilder in Northern Virginia. We completed this finish carpentry interior trim project in 2014

We start off with custom cased arched openings with fluted & paneled columns, two piece chair railing with shadowbox moulding wainscoting

This finish carpentry interior trim work project was installed for Quaker Custom Homes in Northern Virginia. All the mouldings & millwork was provided by Accent Millwork.  You can see more pictures of this custom home on Quaker Homes facebook page HERE ... they are a lot better quality than mine are!

The baseboards are WM-163E fjp, The windows are trimmed out with wood jambs, wood sills and WM-445 fjp casing. The 2 piece chair railing consist of a LWM-304 backer with a LWM-302 chair rail. The 3 piece crown molding is made up from a WM-49 fjp crown mould on a WM-753 beaded backer with a Wm-167 neck moulding. In the Dining room, Foyer and Hallway we installed a shadowbox panel moulding of LWP-184 under all the chair railing. The custom cased openings  are MDF construction with arched headers, fluted above the chair rail and applied panels under the chair to match the shadowbox wainscoting.

The stair railings are an (over-the-post) & (post-to-post) system consisting of 6010 oak railings, 4010PT & 4010MT red oak newel posts, with wrought iron balusters featuring an alternating layout of single baskets and double knuckles in semi-gloss black.

More Than Just Mouldings

Even though we install miles and miles of mouldings for our customers... we also specialize in many other areas of finish carpentry in Northern Virginia and the surrounding counties. We do more than just mouldings.

In this blog we would like to feature a few pictures of some custom built-in cabinetry. This built-in consisted of two units on either side of the fireplace with a mantel feature connecting the cabinetry. Also we built a 1/2 wall bookcase topped off with some 8" tapered columns.

This picture shows the final product. Each unit is around 7' wide by 10' tall. Arched valances, plain stiles, open adjustable shelves on the upper units with closed storage below.

The specifications of these particular built-in cabinets and bookcases are:

• 3/4" Birch vernier plywood casework
• Poplar wood facings with cabinet bead detail
• 3/4" birch ply counters with 1.5" wood edgings with "ogee" profiles
• Recessed toe kick design on the built-ins & flush toe on the 1/2 wall with baseboard
• Inset solid square raised panel doors with concealed euro style adjustable hinges
• Adjustable 3/4" birch ply shelves with 1.5" wood front edgings with beaded detail
• Arched valances topped with a matching crown moulding

Window Seat, Archway, Columns, Wainscoting

Here we show off a few pictures of a nice archway and columns with recessed panels. This archway was made to surround a window seat built-in that we also constructed

 

The arch features recessed panels, applied curved panel mouldings, a keystone detail, all wrapped in a 3 5/8" crown that continues through out the room.

The columns also feature recessed panels and crown molding. We also applied some panel moulding shadowboxes in the window seat area for more interest.

This was just part of a whole room renovation project / makeover. This bedroom improvement project also included the removal of a stippled ceiling, a double framed paneled beadboard wainscoting, custom painting with glazed accents, new electrical outlets, switches and cover plates.

Small Moulding Project

Just a note to feature a small project we completed around a year ago or so.

The project was to build a header - bulkhead - soffit and a couple of 1/2 columns, in order to separate the dining room from the living room. 

We also installed crown mouldings in the dining room and living room and  chair railing in the dining room.

This is just one option to be used when you want to divide up the rooms without actually doing so. This allows you to change up the paint colors or wall treatments for each room. You could also add in some full columns at the outside angled corner created by the soffit, or some short 1/2 walls with 1/2 columns if desired.

These pilasters were made with an applied panel moulding to give them a recessed panel look, along with a nice two piece chair railing. They could also be fluted above the chair rail with the panel below. I would like to have seen a nice shadow box panel moulding in the dining room on this particular project.

This first picture shows a nice example of an archway supported by square fluted columns. The columns have applied shadowbox panels under the two-piece chair rail, that continues through the entire room. This can be made in any length, width or height. Also note that we can make it ceiling height, and incorporate the crown moulding through-out the entire room. (See the second picture)
