On this page we feature two remodeling projects: One is a rather extensive foyer makeover, the other is adding custom cabinetry to a family room fireplace area.
The first project... the foyer, involved the demo of an existing stone planter, the old ceramic flooring, the front double door, the removal of both stairways, the stairway walls, and basement doorway. We then modified the framing to enlarge both stairways to accommodate two wider new sets of oak stairs, and give an open look from the second floor down to the soon to be finished lower level.
Also included in this project was a room divider partition that consisted of two half walls capped in granite counters, with a columned archway, with recessed built-in lighting. New oak railings, extensive mouldings to include casings, baseboards, chair rails, crown mouldings, and wainscot shadowboxes from the second floor through to the lower level. A new mahogany front door with sidelites replaced the old double door. A new limestone tiled flooring in a nice classic pattern, to finish things off.
FAMILY ROOM RENOVATION PROJECT
The focus here was to try and minimize some of the stonework. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't have enough stone. It just kind of took over the room, and the hearth was just a big catch-all.
We removed the old faux beams, lighting cones, and textured drywall. We then installed recessed lighting throughout, modified the cabinetry around the existing stone hearth, and scribed it to the stonework. Installed a new sliding glass door, drywall, mouldings and paint.
